Why are we preaching and teaching error?
I cannot understand why, at this time of the year, we feel it necessary to promote and teach a lie. Not only teach it, but promote it. In songs we sing to plays and pageants. In our homes and in, of all places, our churches. From pastor to Sunday School teachers, most are guilty.
I refer to the Nativity. As found in Matthew 2. Even the first seven words of verse one point out this truth. Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem (New King James Version). Point being, church, pastors, Bible teachers and all of my Christian brothers and sisters — the Magi, magos or wise men, were not at the birth of Jesus. Look further at verse two, “Where is he that is born” (KJV) is past tense.
Again, look further at verse 11, “And when they were come into the house” (KJV).
One need not be a Bible scholar to see the truth of it. It is self-evident that the wise men were not at the birth of Christ. Only poor shepherds and His parents were there on that special night.
You may smile and say, “What’s the big deal?” Truth is.
Get rid of the wise men in your own Nativity sets and explain why you are doing so. It may hurt for a while, but the truth, as the verse is in this publication’s motto, “will set you free” (John 8:31–32).
