While in seminary, Pratt Dean felt a call to missions. He was appointed as an IMB missionary to Japan in 1966, and in 1970 he married Rita, who had been serving in Taiwan. The two served in Japan together until their retirement in 1999.

For years, Jack Still served as pastor of Mount Joy Baptist Church in Hanceville, Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cullman, First Baptist Church Fairfield and Elkton Road Baptist Church in Athens.
Before returning to Alabama in 2003, Mary Swedenburg served for 34 years in Japan with the International Mission Board.
